In September 2025, Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman announced their separation after nearly two decades together.
More than a year earlier, Urban publicly reflected on the struggles that nearly broke their marriage apart.
At the 49th AFI Life Achievement Award Gala in April 2024, Urban said his addiction battles threatened the marriage just months after their June 2006 wedding. He entered rehab four months into the marriage, uncertain whether Kidman would remain by his side.
“I had no idea what was going to happen to us… and if you want to see what love in action really looks like, give that a whirl,” Urban said, according to People. “Nic pushed through every negative voice, I’m sure even some of her own, and she chose love.”
The couple went on to share 18 years together and raise daughters Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret. Their relationship became one of Hollywood’s longest partnerships before their decision to part ways.
Earlier this year, Urban showed reluctance to discuss the marriage in public. During an interview with Mix 102.3’s Hayley & Max in the Morning, he left the conversation after a question about Kidman’s on-screen romance with Zac Efron in the 2024 film A Family Affair.
Over the years, Urban and Kidman often appeared hand in hand at anniversaries, award shows and premieres, offering a glimpse of a marriage that weathered both public attention and private challenges.
