The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) foiled an attempt to send citizens abroad illegally through hefty bribes at the New Islamabad International Airport, arresting two immigration officials and registering a case against them.
According to a spokesperson, FIA Assistant Sub-Inspector Nadeem Arshad and Head Constable Mujahid Ali were found using mobile phones during duty hours in violation of a strict ban.
During a surprise check by Deputy Director Immigration Salman Liaqat on the directives of FIA Islamabad Zone Director Shehzad Nadeem Bukhari, the two were caught contacting passengers and agents.
Their mobile phones revealed crucial evidence of illegal immigration activities.
The FIA spokesperson said the officials were charging Rs50,000 per passenger for facilitating travel to the Philippines and Uzbekistan.
Initial investigations also uncovered records of financial transactions worth millions through microfinance accounts.
The FIA Anti-Corruption Circle Islamabad has registered a case against the officials and presented them in court, which granted a three-day physical remand. Further investigations are underway.
