Pakistan has stepped up efforts to expand economic ties with Bangladesh, with the Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Commerce, Ihsaan Afzal Khan, concluding a visit to Dhaka. Khan held a series of high-level engagements with chambers, businesses, and financial institutions, aimed at deepening bilateral trade and investment cooperation.
During the trip, Khan attended a networking session jointly organised by the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) and the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI). According to an official statement issued on Saturday, in meetings with DCCI President Taskeen Ahmed and board members, discussions focused on opportunities in pharmaceuticals, automotive and minerals. Both sides agreed on the need to strengthen the overall business environment and follow up on initiatives launched during the recent visit of Pakistan’s commerce minister.
Khan also met leading representatives of Bangladesh’s private sector at a dinner hosted by Muhammad Wasif, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. at the High Commission for Pakistan. Participants included the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association, Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association, and other trade bodies. The talks centred on boosting cooperation in trade and investment and encouraging greater private-sector linkages.
The coordinator held discussions at the National Bank of Pakistan’s Dhaka branch with Country Director Mohammad Quamruzzaman and Deputy General Manager Jawad Raza Naqvi on enhancing banking sector collaboration and providing operational support for businesses. He also visited Incepta Pharmaceuticals Ltd’s Dhamrai facility, where he reviewed potential avenues of cooperation between Pakistani and Bangladeshi pharmaceutical firms.
