Miley Cyrus still keeps dress from first date with Liam Hemsworth

Miley Cyrus reflects on her past with Liam Hemsworth.

Miley Cyrus is holding on to one of her most sentimental keepsakes from her relationship with ex-husband Liam Hemsworth.

In a new interview with Vogue, the singer revealed that she still owns the dress she wore on her first date with Hemsworth.

“I literally have a dress that I had on when I met my ex-husband, and then I have my dress that I wore on our first date,” Cyrus said. She added that she has also saved letters and other mementos from their time together.

The Flowers hitmaker explained that while she wants to preserve these “beautiful moments,” it can be difficult because many of them were lived in the public eye.

“It’s a little bit tough to decide what piece I want to share and what I would ever allow to be seen,” she admitted.

Cyrus said she came across the dress and other keepsakes while organizing her belongings, noting that she’s in the process of “creating a legacy rack”, a curated collection of looks from each era of her career.

“Everything I do in my life is a little bit intense, but it has to be holistic,” she explained. “That’s why my eras, they’re not a costume, they’re actually like a metamorphosis or a true evolution for me personally.”

Cyrus and Hemsworth first met in 2009 on the set of The Last Song. Their relationship was on-and-off before they got engaged in 2012. After calling it off, they reconciled in 2016 and married in December 2018.

By 2019, however, the couple split, with Hemsworth filing for divorce. At the time, Cyrus’ rep said they remained “dedicated parents to all of their animals” and asked for privacy as they moved forward separately.

The singer later admitted that the public nature of their breakup was painful. Speaking on The Joe Rogan Experience, she said, “What really sucked about it wasn’t the fact that me and someone that I loved realized that we don’t love each other the way we used to anymore… I can’t accept the villainizing and just all those stories.”

Cyrus has since found love with drummer Maxx Morando, whom she began dating in 2021. Hemsworth, meanwhile, is now engaged to model Gabriella Brooks, with the couple recently announcing their engagement on Instagram.

Looking back, Cyrus also revealed in her Used to Be Young TikTok series that she knew her marriage with Hemsworth was over while performing at the Glastonbury Festival in 2019.

The two had lost their Malibu home in the devastating Woolsey Fire just months before, a trauma that she said pushed them into marriage.

“The day of the show was the day I had decided that it was no longer going to work in my life to be in that relationship,” she confessed.

For Cyrus, the keepsakes, including that first-date dress, remain a reminder of love, growth, and transformation, even as she continues evolving both personally and professionally.
