Insomniac Games and Sony Interactive Entertainment have officially dropped the gameplay trailer for Marvel's Wolverine, confirming the highly anticipated title will launch exclusively on PlayStation 5 in late 2026.
The trailer sets the tone immediately, opening with Wolverine's guttural growl before cutting to scenes of him clawing through enemies with ferocity. The footage highlights combat across varied settings - snowy mountains, neon-lit Japanese streets, and urban cityscapes.
Wolverine's trademark yellow suit makes an appearance, along with action-packed sequences featuring rooftop chases, rope leaps, and a high-speed motorcycle ride. Insomniac has embraced a mature tone, with the game rated 17+ for intense violence.
The visuals lean heavily into realism, from the painful detail of claws piercing through skin to blood-drenched takedowns. "Drama has a way of finding me," Wolverine reflects in the trailer, before closing with the chilling declaration: "I am no hero, I am Wolverine."
The reveal also teases appearances by familiar Marvel characters, including Mystique, suggesting a deeper dive into the X-Men mythos. While Marvel's Wolverine is a standalone title, it shares continuity with Insomniac's acclaimed Spider-Man series, marking a broader expansion of Marvel's gaming universe.
The game is directed by Marcus Smith and Mike Daly, who stepped in after leadership changes in 2024. Writing credits include Mary Kenney, Walt Williams, Nick Folkman, and Joe Halstead.
Insomniac's road to release has not been without setbacks. In December 2023, the studio suffered a ransomware breach that exposed development assets and long-term plans. Despite the leak, the company confirmed the project faced no major delays.
The breach also revealed that Wolverine will serve as the first instalment of a planned trilogy centred on the X-Men universe, signalling a new era of partnership between Marvel, Sony Interactive Entertainment, and Insomniac.
The gameplay reveal has already crossed 3 million views across platforms, with fans praising the brutal combat, cinematic environments, and gritty authenticity true to Wolverine's character. Early reactions suggest Marvel's Wolverine could stand as one of the defining titles of the next PlayStation era.
