SUKKUR:

The disappearance of 11-year-old Saira Soomro from the mansion of a local Pir in Bharchundi, Deharki, district Ghotki, has triggered widespread protests and public outrage across the province.

As per details, the Soomro family, facing repeated threats and violence from members of the Bhutti community, had sought refuge at the residence of the influential Pir in Bharchundi. Fateh Muhammad Soomro, father of the missing girl, entrusted his daughter to the care of the Pir, who had assured them of her safety and protection.

However, when Fateh Muhammad and his wife Sakina visited the mansion to inquire after their daughter, they were devastated to learn that Saira had mysteriously gone missing.

An FIR was registered at the Deharki police station, but the case was allegedly mishandled from the outset. Despite serious allegations, the accused — identified as Mian Arslan, Mian Sohail, and Mian Muhammad Ali — were granted bail, raising serious questions over the role of local law enforcement and the influence wielded by the accused.

The Soomro family has accused the Pir of direct involvement in Saira's disappearance and criticised the authorities for their inaction. With no progress in the investigation and Saira's whereabouts still unknown, the case has become a symbol of the broader issues of power abuse, impunity, and lack of protection for vulnerable communities.
