Marvin Jones III has been cast as Tombstone in Marvel and Sony’s upcoming film Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
The news comes as production briefly paused following Tom Holland’s on-set concussion, though filming is scheduled to resume September 29.
Jones is no stranger to the role, having previously voiced Tombstone in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and the forthcoming Beyond the Spider-Verse. Now, he will bring the notorious crime boss to life in the live-action Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Known in the comics as Lonnie Lincoln, Tombstone is one of Spider-Man’s longest-running adversaries. Created by Gerry Conway and Alex Saviuk in 1988, the character is portrayed as an intimidating crime lord with near-indestructible skin and sharpened teeth.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day marks the first live-action Spidey film since Spider-Man: No Way Home, which grossed over $1.9 billion in 2021. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film will feature returning stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker and Zendaya as MJ, alongside new additions Sadie Sink and Liza Colón-Zayas in undisclosed roles. Mark Ruffalo is also expected to appear as The Hulk.
Produced by Amy Pascal and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, the film is slated for theatrical release on July 31, 2026.
Jones is best known for his role as Tobias Whale in Black Lightning and has recently appeared in projects including Shadow Force, The Equalizer, All American: Homecoming, and Halo. Upcoming credits include Amazon’s Criminal and the indie feature Gringo Champion.
With Jones’ casting, Marvel expands the roster of iconic villains joining the MCU, as anticipation builds for Spider-Man’s next chapter.
