Disney’s Frozen 3 may be set to mark a first for the studio’s Princess stories. A synopsis reportedly shared at Disney’s Consumer Products Division Launch Conference in Shanghai has outlined a wedding in Arendelle alongside the arrival of a new royal family member.
The translation reads, “In this new chapter, witness the wedding of the century in Arendelle as Queen Anna walks down the aisle and joins Elsa on a new magical journey filled with unknown challenges. And what's even more exciting: the royal family is about to welcome a mysterious new member!”
Although unconfirmed by Disney, the synopsis has been circulated by multiple sources. The reference to a “mysterious new member” has sparked speculation that Anna and Kristoff may welcome a child, which would be a landmark moment for Walt Disney Animation.
In the official Princess line-up, no character has been portrayed as a mother in a theatrical release. Ariel from The Little Mermaid remains the only Princess to have a child, introduced in the direct-to-video sequel The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea.
Alternatively, the “new member” could represent another magical creation or a new character entirely, continuing a tradition of expanding family dynamics seen in Disney sequels, such as Frozen II’s deeper look at Anna and Elsa’s mother.
Directed by Jared Bush of Encanto fame, the sequel follows the global success of the first two films, which have collectively earned over $2.7 billion worldwide. With its release, the franchise is expected to surpass $3 billion.
Frozen 3 is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on 24 November 2027.
