On the directives of DIG Traffic Punjab Waqas Nazir, Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Rawalpindi Farhan Aslam has launched a strict crackdown on overloading in school vans, rickshaws, and other vehicles to ensure student safety.
CTO Aslam instructed all circle and sector in-charges to take immediate legal action against vehicles carrying more children than their capacity, unlicensed drivers, and those using gas cylinders in school transport.
Under the new guidelines, rickshaw drivers are barred from seating children in the front, while only one person will be allowed in the front seat of Suzuki pickups or school vans. The practice of hanging school bags outside vehicles has also been banned.
Special duties have been assigned to the Education Wing to conduct awareness campaigns in schools about safe transport.
"Children are our future, and their safety is our responsibility," said CTO Aslam, urging parents to ensure their children use safe and legal transport. He also appealed to the public to report overloaded or unsafe school vehicles for timely action.
"Let's work together to make our roads safer and prevent accidents. Every individual has a role to play," he added.
