DIR LOWER:

Political leaders and local elders of Lower Dir on Saturday urged the government and its security institutions to fulfill their constitutional and legal responsibilities by establishing the state's writ in the district.

The demand was made during a multi-party conference organized by Jamaat-e-Islami at Ihya-ul-Uloom, Balambat, in view of the deteriorating law and order situation in the region. The conference was attended by leaders of various political parties, local Jirga elders, lawyers, social activists, and media representatives.

Speakers included Jamaat-e-Islami district chief and former ameer Maulana Asadullah, ANP district president and former MPA Haji Bahadur Khan, PPP district president Nawabzada Ahmed Zeb, former NA candidate Alam Zeb Advocate, PML-N district president Malik Farooq Iqbal, former provincial minister Malik Jehan Zeb, JUI-F district chief Sirajuddin, Maulana Nabi Shah, former MPA from Upper Dir Malik Bahram Khan, District Bar President Muhammad Saleem Advocate, Trade Union President Haji Anwaruddin, Dir Qaami Pasoon patron Malik Jehan Alam, Action Committee president Haji Saeed Gul, parliamentarian Nazir Gujar, and others.

Participants expressed deep sorrow over the recent violent incidents in Maidan and Lajbok, offering collective prayers for those martyred.

A joint declaration issued after the conference lamented the absence of elected members of the National and Provincial Assemblies. It also voiced grave concern over the worsening law and order situation in Lajbok and Maidan, which has instilled fear among residents, disrupted daily life, and created severe hardships for families and businesses.

The declaration demanded that the government immediately restore its writ in the troubled areas, take concrete measures to protect lives and property, and evolve a lasting solution in consultation with political parties and local elders. It was stressed that forced displacement of local communities would not be allowed.

The participants warned that if the government failed to take serious and practical steps for restoring peace, local leaders and communities would be compelled to act on their own.
