Kelly Bates, a Rhode Island meteorologist, has announced that she has been let go from ABC6 following a corporate acquisition that made her role redundant.
Sharing the news on social media, Bates expressed her disappointment but emphasized resilience, thanking her colleagues for their support and asking viewers to share any job opportunities.
Bates has had a distinguished career in broadcast meteorology. She previously worked at NBC10 for 17 years before leaving in 2021 due to challenging working conditions.
In 2022, she joined ABC6 and has earned multiple Emmy nominations, as well as induction into Rhode Island Monthly’s Hall of Fame.
In her message to fans and peers, Bates said, “Please feel free to reach out to me, because I could use a job,” highlighting both her sudden layoff and her commitment to continuing her career.
She also encouraged support for her former colleagues, many of whom are now seeking new opportunities.
Despite this being her second major career setback, Bates remains determined to persevere and continue contributing to the field of broadcast meteorology, serving as an example of professionalism and resilience in a volatile industry.
