The newly-constructed Hub Canal, built at a cost of Rs12.76 billion to supply water to Karachi, collapsed only 28 days after its inauguration due to rains, severely disrupting water supply to the metropolis.
PTI Sindh President Haleem Adil Sheikh visited the damaged site. Speaking to the media, Sheikh said billions of rupees of taxpayers' money had been lost to corruption. "The collapse of the canal after just one rainfall proves that substandard material was used. The inauguration was not even a month old and within 28 days Rs12bn has gone down the drain," he remarked.
He announced that PTI would move court against corruption in Hub Canal and Bhutto Highway projects.
