KARACHI:

A man died after falling into the Lyari River near Teen Hatti, and during the subsequent rescue operation, authorities also recovered a several days old unidentified body from the same river.

Police were informed that a man had fallen into the Lyari River in the Teen Hatti area, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Super Market Police Station. The police called in the Rescue 1122 team, which began a search and rescue mission.

The victim was eventually recovered in critical condition near Yaqoob Line in Pak Colony, but he succumbed to his injuries shortly after. According to SHO Super Market Farukh Hashmi, the deceased was identified as Dharma, a man aged between 55 and 60 years. While the incident occurred in Super Market's jurisdiction, the body was found near Yaqoob Bridge, which falls within the Pak Colony area.

SHO Hashmi further confirmed that Dharma lived in makeshift huts along the Lyari River, and his son disclosed that he was a drug addict. After completing all legal formalities, the body was handed over to the family.

Meanwhile, a Rescue 1122 spokesperson confirmed that during the search for Dharma, the team also found another unidentified body in the river. The second corpse appeared to be several days old, with a rope tied around its feet. Rescue officials handed the body over to Edhi Foundation volunteers, who transported it to a hospital for further legal procedures.

However, SHO Farukh Hashmi claimed he had no knowledge of the second body being recovered. SHO Pak Colony Anwar Ali also denied any recovery within his jurisdiction, suggesting that the case may fall under a Central District police station. The discovery of a second body, especially under suspicious circumstances, and the apparent lack of inter-departmental coordination have raised concerns among local residents about safety and the effectiveness of emergency response efforts in the area.
