Olympic gold medalist Shaun White and actress Nina Dobrev have ended their engagement and parted ways after five years together, as per eclusive reports by People. A source close to the former couple confirmed that the decision was mutual and made with “love and a deep respect for one another.”
White, 39, and Dobrev, 36, were last seen publicly on August 31, 2025, in Los Angeles, holding hands while running errands. However, signs of their split emerged on September 7 when Dobrev attended the Eternity premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival without her engagement ring. She also unpinned the October 2024 engagement announcement from the top of her Instagram, though the post remains on her profile.
The couple first met during a brief awards show encounter in 2012 but didn’t reconnect until 2019 at a speaking event in Florida hosted by Tony Robbins. They began dating that same year and moved in together at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. In May 2020, White made their relationship Instagram official, sharing photos of Dobrev giving him a quarantine haircut.
Their bond deepened over the years, with Dobrev supporting White during his fifth and final Winter Olympics in Beijing in 2022. Speaking to People at the time, White credited Dobrev for being “so supportive and so amazing” throughout his Olympic journey and during the pandemic.
White proposed in October 2024 during a surprise dinner at The Golden Swan in New York City. The proposal was staged under the pretense of attending a CFDA/Vogue dinner with Anna Wintour. Dobrev said she was in shock when White presented her with a 5-carat Lorraine Schwartz diamond ring. The couple later celebrated with friends over champagne, caviar, dumplings, and Shake Shack.
Despite their split, sources emphasize that the breakup was amicable. Representatives for both Dobrev and White have not commented publicly.
