A total of 23 candidates will contest the upcoming local government by-elections in Hyderabad, while Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) nominees have already secured seven seats unopposed. Three seats, however, remain vacant as no eligible candidates came forward.
According to the Election Commission of Pakistan, the by-polls are scheduled for September 24 and the final list of candidates has been issued.
In UC-94 of Sachal Sarmast, Latifabad, seven candidates are vying for the chairman's seat, including PPP's Ghulam Murtaza Shoro, PTI's Noor Badshah, and five independents. In UC-108 of Latifabad, six candidates will compete for the vice chairman's position, among them PPP's Muhammad Zubair Sheikh, TLP's Muhammad Faizan, and other independents.
Several contests are also set for general ward member seats. In UC-50, Preetabad, PPP's Muhammad Latif will face TLP's Mahfooz Ahmed. In UC-39, Khadim Hussain Bhutto of PPP is up against independent candidate Noor Zaman Halepota. In UC-19, PPP's Muhammad Bilal will compete with independent Kareemullah. In UC-106 of Shah Latifabad, PPP's Zaheer Ahmed will contest against TLP's Muhammad Saleem. In UC-112, TLP's Muhammad Nauman Qureshi will face independent candidate Syed Mubashir Hussain Jafri, who is affiliated with PTI.
Meanwhile, PPP candidates have been declared successful without contest in seven wards. These include Mehr Majnoon in UC-1, Muhammad Saleem Solangi in UC-2, Mushtaq Muhammad Mansoori in UC-13, Mir Mubashir Hassan in UC-138, Jafar Hussain Rajpar and Imdad Ali in UC-139, and Mangtaz, wife of Kadu, in UC-93 of Sachal Sarmast Latifabad.
Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) has announced its candidates for four constituencies in the upcoming local government by-elections, according to Muhammad Tabish Hussain, Election Cell In-charge for TLP Hyderabad. Muhammad Faizan will contest for Vice Chairman from Union Committee No106, Sachal Sarmast Town, while Muhammad Saleem has been nominated for General Councillor from Ward 3 of the same UC. In Union Committee No50, Preetabad Town, Mahfooz Ahmed has secured the party ticket. Meanwhile, Muhammad Nouman Qureshi will run for General Councillor from Ward 4 of Union Committee No11, Shah Latif Town.
