
At least four young men lost their lives in separate electrocution incidents across the metropolitan city as intermittent monsoon downpour continued on Tuesday and Wednesday.
According to police, 18-year-old Mustaqeem died of electrocution at his home in Rashidabad, a slum area falling within the jurisdiction of Khawaja Ajmer Nagri police station. SHO Sarfraz stated that initial reports suggested the teenager was operating a water pump when he received a fatal electric shock. His body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.
In another incident, 18-year-old Waseem was electrocuted while working at a water filtration shop in Ayub Goth within the remits of Sohrab Goth police station. SHO Mumtaz Marwat confirmed that the deceased was employed at the shop. His body was handed over to the family after legal proceedings at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
The third electrocution death was reported from North Nazimabad, Block C, where 18-year-old Ahmed, son of Abdul Qadir, died inside a tyre puncture shop. Police said the deceased hailed from Rahim Yar Khan and was found dead early Tuesday morning. Separately, a man lost his life in Shah Faisal Colony No 3 while allegedly attempting to illegally hook electricity. K-Electric confirmed that the incident was linked to power theft. The power utility clarified that its infrastructure was not involved in the electrocution cases reported in Ajmer Nagri and Ayub Goth, which occurred within private premises.
KE spokesperson Imran Rana expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of lives and urged the public to take stringent safety precautions during wet weather conditions.
