KARACHI:

At least four people died and three others went missing after an auto rickshaw and two other vehicles were swept away by flash flooding in Konkar stream near Superhighway in Gadap Town late Tuesday night, police and rescue officials confirmed on Wednesday.

According to SHO PS Gadap Sarfraz Jatoi, seven people were caught in the sudden flood as heavy rainfall inundated the area. Police and rescuers reached the site shortly after the incident was reported; however, the operation was suspended overnight due to dangerously high water levels.

The rescue operation resumed Wednesday morning with the assistance of Edhi Foundation. After several hours of efforts, three bodies were recovered from the stream and shifted to the Gadap Town police station for medico-legal formalities.

The deceased were identified as 60-year-old Nabo, her 45-year-old son Raja, and 40-year-old Javed Shah, police confirmed, adding that all victims were residents of Gadap Town.

Rescuers continued to search for the remaining four persons believed to have been swept away in the floodwaters. Officials said the search operation would continue until all missing persons were accounted for. Later in the evening, the body og 60-year-old Gulab was also recovered.
