PESHAWAR:

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government has announced the launch of the Ehsaas E-Pension System for government employees, a paperless mechanism designed to streamline pension processing. Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur has formally approved the initiative, which will become operational in January 2026, making K-P the first province in the country to digitize pensions.

According to official sources, the Chief Minister's Secretariat has already prepared a concept paper for the project, while the Finance Department has received formal instructions for its rollout. From January 2026 onward, all pensions of new retirees will be processed exclusively through the new digital system, replacing the existing paper-based mechanism.

Under the plan, an Ehsaas Pension Dashboard will serve as a centralized platform for handling pension cases. Employees approaching retirement will be able to submit their applications online six months prior to their retirement date by filling out a simple digital form. Required documents can be scanned and uploaded directly into the system, reducing reliance on physical files and cutting down unnecessary delays.

The E-Pension System has been designed to ensure time-bound, automated processing. Once an application is submitted, the system will automatically assign digital tasks to the concerned authorities. Pension sanction orders, retirement notifications, pension papers, and payment authorizations will all be generated digitally and signed with legally recognized e-signatures.

Officials said the initiative is expected to drastically reduce the pension processing time, bringing it down from several months to just two to four weeks. This will relieve retirees of the burden of repeated visits to government offices and lengthy bureaucratic hurdles.

The new system also introduces a comprehensive monitoring mechanism. The Chief Minister, Chief Secretary, and Finance Secretary will be able to track departmental performance and application progress in real time through the dashboard. The system will be integrated with NADRA, the Accountant General's Office, and commercial banks, ensuring that pension payments are directly transferred into retirees' accounts within stipulated timelines.

To ensure legal and administrative sustainability, the government has also proposed amendments to existing laws. A detailed ten-point roadmap with clear timelines has been finalized, guaranteeing smooth implementation. The formal inauguration of the Ehsaas E-Pension System is scheduled for January 15, 2026.

Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, in his statement, described the project as a revolutionary step for good governance. "This system will eliminate the hardships faced by pensioners under the outdated manual process. It will bring transparency, accountability, and efficiency to the pension framework," he said. He further added that the reform aligns with the vision of former prime minister Imran Khan to build a Digital Pakhtunkhwa.
