RAWALPINDI:

Two women were arrested on Friday after hurling an egg at Aleema Khanum, sister of PTI founder Imran Khan, while she addressed the media outside Adiala Jail.

The incident took place near the Dahgal checkpoint during a briefing following a hearing in the Toshakhana case.

Eyewitnesses said the women tried to make a getaway in their car after the attack. However, PTI workers quickly closed in, surrounding the vehicle and attempting to smash its windows with stones and fists.

Police arrived promptly, taking both women into custody and transferring them to the Adiala police post.

A statement issued by the Rawalpindi Police identified the two arrested women as PTI supporters who had travelled to the city alongside members of the All Government Employees Grand Alliance and the All Pakistan Clerks Association to protest over unmet demands.

"The egging took place when Aleema Khan did not answer the questions raised by the two women," the statement said. "They have been taken into police custody and sent to the Adiala checkpoint."

The police added that immediately after throwing the egg, the women attempted to flee in their car. "However, their vehicle was surrounded by PTI supporters, some of whom also hurled pebbles at the car and broke the windscreen."

The statement also alleged that the women had been sent to the media briefing "as part of an agenda." PTI further noted that they had obtained the registration number of the car seen in the video and demanded that a first information report be registered for the "attack on Aleema Khan".

The incident coincided with a protest by members of the All Government Employees Grand Alliance and the All Pakistan Clerks Association from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, who were present for their demands. The spokesperson added that the egg-throwing occurred after the women did not get satisfactory responses to their questions, triggering commotion and shouting at the scene.

During the briefing, Aleema Khanum addressed circulating social media reports about Imran Khan's health. She said he informed her that his ear condition was minor and not serious, while doctors had prescribed medication for eye discomfort.
