Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed the Urban Unit, Board of Revenue and other relevant departments to take immediate steps to finalise a comprehensive package for rehabilitation of the flood victims in the province.
Chairing a meeting of the stakeholders to deliberate on the package, she said the problems of the victims should be considered sympathetically.
The chief minister formed a high-level committee to conduct a survey of the flood-affected areas before preparing an effective rehabilitation package.
She directed the relevant authorities to complete the survey as soon as possible by employing a transparent procedure, including digital record keeping.
She also directed the authorities to increase relief funds in the package besides devising a rehabilitation programme for the farmers of the affected areas.
The chief minister will announce the rehabilitation package for the flood victims.
She directed the authorities concerned to set up marquees in every district for the victim families who would not be able to return immediately due to the destruction of their homes.
She said the flood-affected families would be shifted to tents in every district in view of the onset of winter.
She directed the authorities to set up separate marquees for men and women with clean water, food and other facilities.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz ordered removal of encroachments and settlements from waterways.
She agreed to a proposal to declare waterways of rivers and streams as red zones for construction.
