KARACHI:

Amid rising tensions and protests at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital over delayed salary payments, the hospital's Director, Dr Faisal Samdani, has issued a video statement to clarify the current status of disbursements and address concerns raised by the medical staff.

Dr Samdani confirmed that salaries for all regular doctors have been duly released for the current month. He further informed that stipends for 36 postgraduate trainees enrolled in the four-year training programme were disbursed on August 22, while payments to newly appointed house officers were processed on September 1.

However, he acknowledged that salaries of 32 doctors were held back due to incomplete documentation. "These payments are being expedited and will be cleared by the end of the day," he assured. Dr Samdani went on to pledge that "all" pending salaries will be paid in full by "September 10".

Responding to reports of absenteeism, the hospital director revealed that several doctors have not been marking their attendance via the biometric system and have also been found absent from duty. "A list of such doctors has been compiled, and strict disciplinary action will be initiated against them," he warned.
