ISLAMABAD:

Torrential rains lashed Abbottabad and adjoining areas overnight, triggering flash floods and landslides that damaged houses, blocked roads, and disrupted daily life.

Local sources said the Harno stream witnessed a dangerous surge, with sand, gravel and stones clogging freshwater springs for the past 10 days. The blockage has caused a severe shortage of drinking water, leaving traders, tourists and residents in distress.

Several parts of Abbottabad city were submerged, while floodwater blocked the main Mansehra Road for hours, stranding hundreds of vehicles and cutting off traffic between Abbottabad and Mansehra. In low-lying areas, water entered houses, forcing families to shift belongings to safer places.

In Union Council Namal, three houses were damaged in Village Council Majhuwan, while another three were affected in Gari village after debris slid into settlements. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

Rescue teams and the local administration have begun clearing blocked roads and assessing losses. Residents have urged authorities to restore clean water supply, reinforce riverbanks, and improve drainage systems to mitigate further damage during the ongoing monsoon season.
