James Gunn has officially set the release date for Man of Tomorrow, the follow-up to this summer’s Superman.
The film will arrive in theaters on July 9, 2027, continuing Gunn’s vision for the newly launched DC Universe.
The announcement came directly from Gunn on social media, where he revealed the project as the next step in his DC film slate. While not described as a direct sequel, Man of Tomorrow is expected to expand on the foundation laid by Superman, which introduced David Corenswet as Clark Kent and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. The film earned over $600 million worldwide and was praised for its fresh take on the iconic superhero.

Production on Man of Tomorrow is expected to begin in 2026, though Gunn has not shared additional casting or plot details. The project follows DC Studios’ broader strategy, overseen by Gunn and co-head Peter Safran, to connect films, television, and even video games under one unified storyline.
Recent and upcoming DC projects include season two of Peacemaker, now aligned with the new DCU, a theatrical Supergirl film starring Milly Alcock, and Lanterns, a live-action series led by Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre set to debut on HBO. In addition, Clayface, a horror film based on the Batman villain, is scheduled for release in September 2026.
Future projects in development also include James Mangold’s Swamp Thing and a Wonder Woman-adjacent series, signaling a diverse and ambitious roadmap for DC Studios. With Man of Tomorrow, Gunn aims to solidify Superman’s central role in the next era of superhero storytelling.
