Cardi B expressed relief after a Los Angeles jury determined she did not assault former security guard Emani Ellis in 2018. Speaking outside the courthouse on Tuesday, September 2, the rapper thanked jurors, the presiding judge, members of the press, and her supporters for standing by her throughout the five-day trial.
The proceedings, which began on August 26, sparked both serious discussion and lighter moments. Reporters noticed Cardi wore a different wig each day, and one journalist remarked on the change in Spanish. Laughing, the rapper replied that her “forehead is raw” from switching wigs so often. Inside the courtroom, Ellis’s attorney Ron Rosen also commented on her changing hairstyles, asking whether her hair was real. Cardi clarified with another laugh, saying simply, “They’re wigs.”
While she joked about her looks, Cardi took a firm tone when addressing the case itself. “I swear to God I will say it on my deathbed: I did not touch that woman,” she told reporters. She added that she intends to countersue anyone who files what she described as “frivolous” lawsuits in the future, warning, “I’m gonna make you pay because this is not OK.”
The “Enough (Miami)” rapper also urged fans to avoid harassing Ellis or her family online. “Don’t be talking about her, don’t be talking about how she looks,” she said. “Let’s just put this behind.”
Tuesday’s verdict clears the way for Cardi to turn her focus back to music. Her upcoming album, Am I the Drama?, is set for release on September 19.
