Bringing back Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter could also draw in fans who may have drifted from the MCU

Marvel set photos have sparked fan speculation that a key part of Avengers: Endgame’s finale may soon be overturned, as Doctor Doom’s multiversal reign of terror begins in Avengers: Doomsday. Leaked images from the set in London’s Windsor Park show vintage cars parked near a house that closely resembles the one where Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter lived in the final scenes of Endgame. This is the house where Captain America chose to live quietly with Peggy after returning to the past.

While some fans are excited about the return of Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers and Hayley Atwell’s Peggy Carter, others fear their “happy ever after” could be disrupted. Doctor Doom’s mission appears to involve hunting down any anomalies that threaten the multiverse’s stability — a direct consequence of the Avengers’ time-heist actions in Endgame. As established, the Avengers’ time travel didn’t alter the past but instead created new branched realities, meaning changes to the timeline could have major repercussions.

Since Endgame, various MCU projects like Loki, The Marvels, and Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness have emphasized the multiverse’s fragility. With the Multiverse Saga concluding soon, it makes sense for Doctor Doom to enforce multiversal order by targeting those who disrupt reality.

Bringing back Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter could also draw in fans who may have drifted from the MCU, reuniting major stars like Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. In-universe, this opens room to explore Steve’s untold adventures, as the older Captain America seen in Endgame hinted at a story left unexplained.

Joe Russo has hinted that Steve likely returned to the main timeline to pass his shield to Sam Wilson, suggesting there’s more to his story. Fans will have to wait until Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18, 2026, to see how it all unfolds.
