A man was arrested for allegedly raping his 18-year-old niece after drugging her and six other family members, including children, by serving them a sedative-laced drink at a family gathering on Friday night.
According to police, the incident took place after the suspect, identified as Amir Shaikh, visited his sister's home and offered the family drinks and sweets, which rendered them unconscious. The family members were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors confirmed that 18-year-old Sakina had been sexually assaulted while unconscious.
The victim's mother filed a complaint, accusing her brother Amir of committing the crime. The FIR states that Amir attempted to present himself as a helper once the family regained consciousness.
Police arrested the accused, who confessed during interrogation. Authorities are also probing the source of the sedative used. Sources indicate that the accused had been married four months ago, but his wife left him soon after due to marital disputes.
