Roblox has announced a new policy introducing an adults-only section for experiences labelled with the Restricted maturity tag, limiting access strictly to users aged 18 and over.
Under the updated rules, players under 18 will no longer see Restricted content in searches or recommendations. Later this year, full access will be blocked for those users entirely. Roblox confirmed that the policy also applies to developers.
Creators under 18 will still be able to access Restricted projects they previously published, but only users aged 18 or older will be permitted to upload new experiences carrying the label.
The move follows ongoing scrutiny over child safety on the platform. Earlier this month, on August 11, Roblox banned YouTuber Schlep, known for posting “predator hunter” content.
In addition to the ban, the company issued a cease-and-desist letter, accusing the creator of “simulated child endangerment conversations,” “sharing or soliciting personally identifiable information,” and “encouraging users to move conversations off-platform.” Schlep, who has more than 600,000 subscribers, claimed his work contributed to six arrests over the past year.
Roblox’s decision to ban the YouTuber has drawn debate among players and parents concerned about how the platform manages safety.
Adding to the discussion is television journalist Chris Hansen, best known for hosting NBC’s To Catch a Predator. Hansen has announced he is focusing on Roblox in an upcoming documentary and has reached out to Schlep to contribute to the investigation.
The rollout of the 18+ section marks Roblox’s latest effort to balance creative freedom with safeguarding younger users, as scrutiny over safety policies continues.
