PML-N Azad Jammu and Kashmir President Shah Ghulam Qadir has criticized the PPP over its opposition to giving representation to the AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) in the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award.
"The PPP opposes giving representation to the AJK and G-B in the NFC and the PPP led Sindh government has even sent a letter to the federal government in this regard," Shah said during a speech in Haveli at the first death anniversary of PML-N leader Chaudhry Muhammad Aziz.
He recalled that in the past when WAPDA was requested to supply 600 cusecs of water from Mangla Dam to the local population in Mirpur, the then Sindh's chief minister Qaim Ali Shah had opposed it, saying that the people of the AJK could not receive water from Mangla Dam.
Qadir demanded that the PPP AJK leadership clarify its position. He warned that if the rights of the people of the AJK are not protected, protests will be held across the region against the PPP.
"The water is ours yet we are denied access," he said. "PPP's Sindh government also says the AJK and G-B cannot be given representation in the NFC. The PPP must answer to the people of the AJK."
Qadir further said, "We were Pakistanis even before the creation of Pakistan and India and we have proved this time and again through our sacrifices. We are Pakistanis by choice." He vowed not to let the peaceful environment of the AJK be disturbed and warned against any ideological subversion.
He said the Pakistan Army stands guard at the LoC for the protection of the people of Kashmir. "Those who speak against the army were taking refuge in Islamabad during the Pak-India wars. We are grateful to the Pakistan Army and stand with them," he added.
He urged AJK youth to march forward with the Pakistani and PML-N flags in hand and to strengthen the leadership of PML-N President Nawaz Sharif and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Speaking about the late Chaudhry Muhammad Aziz, he said the deceased politician had exceptional political acumen and could solve complex problems with his wisdom.
"He was not only a loyal friend but also a courageous and ideologically committed leader who could turn every challenge into an opportunity. May Allah grant him the highest rank in Paradise." Shah added.
Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Muhammad Yousaf also addressed the gathering and said the massive turnout was a reflection of the public's love for Chaudhry Muhammad Aziz and the PML-N.
He reminded the audience that Shehbaz has already approved three Danish Schools for the AJK instead of just one and based on local demand and one of the schools will be established in Haveli. "the PM is committed to providing quality education in remote and underdeveloped areas," he said.
