The Hyderabad Divisional Commissioner Fayyaz Hussain has instructed all deputy commissioners to prepare comprehensive evacuation, relief, and resettlement plans for vulnerable areas.
Commissioner Abbasi was chairing a meeting to review the upcoming polio vaccination campaign and the river situation. The deputy commissioner of Jamshoro reported that 250,000 cusecs of water had entered the Indus River near Jamshoro.
Attending the meeting via video link, Jamshoro DC said the deluge had put the villages in Bhan Saeedabad, Sehwan, and Manjhand areas at risk. He said evacuation sites in schools had already been identified and transport plans prepared. The deputy commissioner of Sujawal noted that more than 190 villages in the katcha belt of River Indus were vulnerable, while the deputy commissioner of Thatta informed that 500,000 people residing along the 71-mile-long protective embankment of the Indus River were at risk.
Dadu officials reported 250,000 cusecs of water discharge, with continuous strengthening of embankments. In case of a major flood, residents in low-lying areas could be affected.
