PESHAWAR:

Recent rains and changing weather patterns have rung alarm bells for the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Health Department as the number of active dengue cases in the province has climbed to 90.

According to official figures, a total of 398 people have been infected with dengue so far, while 308 have recovered. In the past 24 hours alone, 82 new cases were confirmed.

The highest number of active cases has been reported from Charsadda, where 73 patients are currently under treatment. Other districts reporting cases include Nowshera and Mansehra (three each), Swabi (three), Lakki Marwat (two), Abbottabad (two), Haripur (one), Mardan (one), Peshawar (one), and Tank (one).

Health officials warned that stagnant water left behind by recent rains could provide breeding grounds for dengue mosquitoes. All district health officers have been directed to intensify surveillance and preventive measures in their respective areas.

Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Health, Ehtesham Ali, clarified that the province is not facing a dengue emergency. He urged the public not to pay heed to rumors, to adopt precautionary measures at homes and workplaces, and to seek immediate medical assistance in case of fever.
