Chief of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz has demanded a ban on political parties with militant wings, calling on the Supreme Court to take suo motu notice against such parties’ participation in general elections.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday after a breakfast meeting with the city’s eminent businessmen, Sharif said that it is crucial for the country to give priority to economic policy. The PML-N and the businessmen community, he said, will go hand-in-hand from now onwards, rather than compromising Pakistan’s dignity by begging for foreign aid.
The party chief further said that politics in handling the current flood situation should now be stopped and efforts for rehabilitating the affected population should be geared up.
He said that those responsible for the killings in Karachi have, among other things, ruined the country’s economy and should, therefore, be taken to task. “Law enforcement agencies should be given complete power to fix the militancy situation in Karachi,” he suggested.
Pakistan’s economy remains an integral part of the PML-N’s manifesto, he said, adding that ruling a country is synonymous to running an industry and when an industry suffers losses, shareholders raise questions. “It is imperative that all stakeholders play their role in ensuring that the government is going in the right direction,” he said.
Speaking about the chronic energy crisis, he said that the issue was exacerbated due to the government’s policies and indifference. “The procedure to privatise national institutions should be made transparent,” he said.
He asked the business community to make suggestions to the PML-N which, he said, the party will honour by implementing them.
