Offset has found himself at the centre of online ridicule after lyrics from his newly released album appeared to place the blame for his failed marriage with Cardi B on her not cooking. The rapper dropped his third studio album Kiari, and fans were quick to dissect several tracks that seemed to reference his tumultuous relationship with Cardi.
The couple married in 2017 and had an on-again, off-again relationship before Cardi B filed for divorce again last August. Their marriage was marked by repeated cheating allegations, public fallouts, reconciliations, and eventual separation. Now, listeners believe Offset is using his music to air grievances about their private life, with lines that left many unimpressed.
On the track Folgers, he raps about an unhappy partner before referencing swapping out a wedding ring. But it was his words on the album’s closing song Move On that sparked the most outrage. In between acknowledging infidelities, he raps: “You never cooked no food, you just want to go out to Nobu.” Many fans immediately tied these lyrics to his ex-wife, who has always been upfront about not catering to traditional domestic expectations.
The backlash online was immediate. Social media users mocked the idea that cooking could be framed as a reason for a marriage falling apart, especially given the wealth and resources of both stars. Some joked that if they had the same level of success and money, they would never cook either. Others criticised the underlying sentiment that women should still be expected to act like housewives even when they are the breadwinners.
One fan compared Offset’s words to recent comments made by Halle Berry’s ex-husband, David Justice, who also complained about his wife not cooking during their marriage. That parallel left many pointing out a pattern of men using outdated domestic expectations to deflect from their own shortcomings. Another fan said it was childish for a grown man to need a meal prepared for him when he could easily hire a chef.
Cardi B’s own words from her hit WAP were also quoted repeatedly, with fans reminding Offset that she had already declared she doesn’t cook or clean but still secured a ring. To many, the lyrics feel less like heartfelt reflection and more like a misplaced attempt to shift blame.
