
A total of 57 candidates have filed nomination papers for 18 vacant seats of chairmen, vice chairmen, and general ward members in the upcoming local government by-elections scheduled for September 24 under the supervision of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
According to official data, the by-polls will be held across 13 union councils (UCs) of the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. In TMC Nerunkot, four candidates filed papers for UC-1 Ward-2, two for UC-2 Ward-3, and three for UC-13 Ward-1, while no nomination was received for UC-13 Ward-2. In TMC Mian Sarfaraz, two candidates are in the run for UC-19 Ward-2. In TMC Paretabad, three candidates each are contesting from UC-39 Ward-1 and UC-50 Ward-2, while one candidate each filed nominations for UC-62 Wards 1 and 2.
In TMC Sachal Sarmast, two candidates are in the fray for UC-93 Ward-2, while the UC-94 chairman seat attracted eight contenders. Seven candidates filed papers for the vice chairman seat of UC-106, and six candidates for Ward-3 of the same UC. From TMC Shah Latifabad, nine candidates are contesting for UC-112 Ward-4. In TMC Hussainabad, only one candidate filed papers for UC-132 Ward-2. In UC-138 Ward-3, a single candidate is in the field, while in UC-139, two candidates each have submitted nominations for Ward-1 and Ward-3.
As per the election schedule, the initial list of candidates will be published on August 25, followed by scrutiny of nomination papers from August 26 to 28.
Appeals against the decisions of returning officers may be filed between August 30 and September 2. The final list of candidates will be issued on September 6, while withdrawal of papers is allowed until September 8. Election symbols will be allotted on September 9, and polling will take place on Friday, September 24.
