Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Adviser on Information Barrister Dr Saif has proposed the purchase of a new helicopter, terming the existing MI-17 outdated and emphasizing that a modern aircraft is a government necessity as it is also used in relief operations.
Speaking to the media during a detailed briefing on the flood-affected districts, Barrister Saif said this year's floods were the worst in K-P, severely disrupting the lives of people. He stressed that the government's top priority is the rehabilitation of the affected population.
Commenting on the recent helicopter crash, he said bad weather appeared to be the likely cause, adding that the black box had been recovered and the findings would be shared with the media once the investigation is complete.
On Saudi assistance, the adviser clarified that if any aid had been provided, it was handed over to the federal government, and the provincial government had no information about it.
Highlighting environmental challenges, Barrister Saif said cloudbursts and rampant deforestation were worsening the province's ecological issues, and legislation had been introduced to curb these problems.
He also referred to his meeting with the Afghan ambassador, where both sides discussed peace, trade, and mutual cooperation. The K-P government, he added, had pledged support for establishing a cancer hospital in Afghanistan and providing technical assistance in border areas. "The people of Afghanistan and Pakistan share historic ties, and strengthening this bond is the need of the hour," he remarked.
