Florence + The Machine are preparing to make a dramatic return this autumn with the announcement of their sixth studio album, Everybody Scream. Scheduled for release on 31 October, the project will be the band’s first full-length record since 2022’s Dance Fever.

Fronted by Florence Welch, the London-formed group has been one of the most influential forces in pop music since their 2008 debut Lungs. Known for cathedral-scale arrangements, ethereal vocals and deeply personal lyricism, Welch has created a unique blend of chamber pop and gothic drama that continues to evolve with each release. The new album appears set to push this aesthetic further, leaning into the grand theatricality that has defined her career.

Hints of the project began surfacing months ago when Welch shared cryptic studio images, including sessions with Idles guitarist Mark Bowen and a whiteboard scrawled with the phrase Swans vs. Adele. The title track, which will serve as the first single, is due for release on 20 August accompanied by a music video. Early visuals linked to the album highlight a darker, gothic-inspired mood, hinting that Everybody Scream may be one of Welch’s most haunting works to date.

The announcement comes during a reflective moment for the band. This year marks the 10th anniversary of their 2015 album How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful, while 2024 saw Welch honour the 15th anniversary of Lungs with a one-off orchestral show at the Royal Albert Hall. Most recently, she made a surprise appearance at Glastonbury 2025, joining The Maccabees on stage before treating fans to her own classic Dog Days Are Over.

Fans are already speculating whether this new era signals a more permanent embrace of gothic pop or a one-off Halloween statement. Either way, Everybody Scream is shaping up to be one of the year’s most anticipated releases, with Welch once again cementing her place as one of the most distinctive voices in modern music.
