French authorities have launched an investigation into the death of a 23-year-old streamer, known online as Pormanove, who collapsed during a live broadcast on Kick. The incident, which took place in the northern city of Roubaix, has shocked the online community and prompted debate over streaming practices.
According to initial reports, Pormanove was streaming with several collaborators when he suddenly lost consciousness. The live broadcast captured the moment, and his companions were seen hesitating before responding. Local authorities confirmed they are examining the circumstances surrounding his death.
Pormanove, whose real name has not been publicly disclosed, had built a following of more than 100,000 subscribers on Kick. He was known for prank-style content and streams involving public dares, but his broadcasts had also drawn controversy. Viewers and fellow streamers have pointed out that he was frequently subjected to verbal abuse and humiliating treatment by his collaborators.
Clips shared online show moments of harassment, including instances where he was pressured into uncomfortable situations. Critics argue that this treatment may have contributed to his distress, raising wider concerns about the pressures faced by young creators in highly competitive environments.
The French government has since taken notice. Junior Digital Minister Marina Ferrari told reporters the case highlights the need for stronger protections against online harassment. “What happened is deeply troubling and shows once again that we must regulate digital platforms more effectively,” she said.
The death has also reignited discussions around so-called “trash streaming” — a controversial genre where creators seek views through provocative stunts and aggressive interactions. Observers warn that without better oversight, platforms risk enabling a cycle of exploitation that places vulnerable streamers at risk.
