Hollow Knight: Silksong made an appearance at Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 19 2025, with nearly 30 seconds of new gameplay shown during the broadcast. The update came alongside confirmation from host Geoff Keighley that the title will release later this year, though no date was provided.

The gameplay clip, shown briefly during the event’s pre-show, offered a look at protagonist Hornet navigating combat and platforming sequences, including what appeared to be a new boss encounter.

This marks the first new footage since 2023, and fans have already begun comparing details with previous gameplay reveals.

Ahead of the event, speculation mounted that Team Cherry might announce the long-awaited release date. Hours before the showcase, the studio teased a “special announcement” scheduled for Thursday, August 21.

Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier also stated on social media that no release date would be shared during Opening Night Live.

Keighley reiterated that Silksong remains on track for 2025 and confirmed that it will be available to play on the Gamescom show floor.

The brief appearance has sparked significant discussion across social media platforms and community forums, where anticipation for the game has been building steadily since its reveal in 2019.

Silksong, developed by Australian studio Team Cherry, is the follow-up to 2017’s critically acclaimed Hollow Knight.

The sequel introduces Hornet as the new playable character, with expanded mobility and abilities shaping both combat and exploration. Fans have long described the title as one of the most highly anticipated independent releases in recent memory.

The community now awaits Thursday’s announcement for a potential release date, marking the next milestone in a six-year wait for the sequel.
