One dead, 24 injured in Lodhran train accident

One passenger was killed and 24 others injured when Awami Express met an accident at Lodhran Junction due to brake failure.

The train was heading to Karachi from Peshawar; however, when it reached Lodhran Junction between the night of Saturday and Sunday, the train's engine derailed and five coaches overturned.

The deceased was identified as Waqas son of Allah Ditta from Khushab. Among the injured are women, children and youth.

The injured were shifted to New District Hospital. The district administration, rescue resources, police and others were engaged in relief activities.

Deputy Commissioner Dr Lubni Nazir visited the district hospital and issued instructions to provide the best medical facilities to the patients immediately. The district administrations also setup a relief camp near the railway station.

Railway Minister Hanif Abbasi has also ordered an inquiry into the incident and expressed grief over the death of the deceased passenger. He said that anyone found guilty of negligence will be taken into task.

The DS Railways said the accident claimed the life of one passenger and rendered 24 others injured. He said the passengers were accommodated in Rehman Baba train to drop them on their destinations.
