The body of a young man who drowned off Manora on Independence Day was recovered from Sandspit on Saturday morning, a day after his uncle's body was found.
Police said six friends had gone on a picnic on Aug 14 when two of them were swept away by waves. Their companions rushed to rescue them, but the strong current pulled six into deep waters. Bystanders managed to save four, while the uncle and nephew went missing.
On Friday evening, divers recovered the body of the uncle, identified as Wasim, from Turtle Beach near Hut No105. He was laid to rest the same night in Chhipa graveyard, Chakkar Goth, Korangi. A father of two, Wasim worked at a water supply unit of an RO plant.
On Saturday morning, the body of his nephew, identified as Zakir, was also found near Sandspit. Zakir, who worked with his uncle at the same RO plant and was engaged to be married this Rabi-ul-Awal, was buried in Garden after funeral prayers at a local mosque.
