RAWALPINDI:

A baby boy, injured in a triple murder in Rawalpindi over a property dispute a couple of days ago, died from his injuries at Benazir Bhutto Hospital on Wednesday, bringing the total number of victims to four.

The accused, Muhammad Ali, had murdered his father and two sisters on Monday, also injuring his infant nephew with a knife. Saddar Beruni police have since filed a case against Muhammad Ali, based on a complaint from the husband of one of the victims, Anjum Ara.

According to police sources, the three-month-old nephew, Salar Hamza, had been receiving treatment for knife wounds to his neck. He passed away yesterday. The total number of victims is now four.

The complainant, Hamza Izhar, said that his wife had been embroiled in a land dispute with her brothers—Muhammad Ali, Shujaat Ali, Sabahat Ali, and Muhammad Shahid—for three months.

He alleged that Muhammad Ali entered his room, threatened Anjum Ara, and then attacked her with a knife in front of his parents, striking her in the throat, arms, and hands. The accused also attacked the complainant’s son, Muhammad Salar Hamza, as he lay in bed, wounding him in the neck.

Neighbours apprehended the suspect after hearing the parents' screams. The complainant claims Muhammad Ali was acting on the instructions of his brothers, Shujaat Ali, Sabahat Ali, and Muhammad Shahid.

Police sources confirmed that the suspect has been arrested and will be presented in court today for remand. Due to the nature of the killings in both Islamabad and Rawalpindi, the suspect will also be transferred into the custody of the federal police.

The three adults, who were killed, had been buried, while the baby’s body would be released to his father after a post-mortem examination.
