RAWALPINDI:

A sub-inspector of the National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) has been suspended after a video surfaced showing him allegedly assaulting a civilian on the M-2 Motorway. The Inspector General (IG) of Motorway Police took notice of the viral video and ordered an immediate departmental inquiry.

According to details, the incident occurred at Muhammad Booti Toll Plaza (Lahore), where uniformed Motorway Police personnel were seen dragging a civilian to a checkpoint and allegedly subjecting him to physical assault and mistreatment. The video also showed the officer reportedly threatening bystanders who attempted to intervene.

In response, the Motorway Police spokesperson said that the altercation began when individuals selling food items at the toll plaza attempted to flee upon seeing the police. One of them was caught, and the SI was seen slapping him.
