Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) leader Maulana Rajab Ali Bangash's son Ali Waris Bangash and his friend were laid to rest at a graveyard on Superhighway on Tuesday.
The janaza was attended by a large number of community members, friends and political personalities.
In an apparent incident of sectarian violence, Ali Waris, son of senior Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen MWM leader Maulana Rajab Ali Bangash, was shot dead in a targeted gun attack in Gulistan-e-Jauhar late Monday night.
According to police, gunmen riding a motorcycle opened indiscriminate fire at a battery shop in Pehalwan Goth, leaving five persons seriously injured. Rescuers and law enforcers reached the spot soon after the incident and shifted the injured to a private hospital. However, Ali Waris Bangash and another victim, Syed Mazhar Abbas, son of Muhammad Ali, succumbed to their wounds during treatment.
Police said the victims were sitting outside the shop when the assailants opened fire. While preliminary reports point to two attackers on a motorcycle, unverified accounts suggest a car may also have been involved.
In a statement, MWM leader Allama Sadiq Jafari strongly condemned the incident and termed it a clear act of sectarian terrorism.
