The 27-year-old Euphoria and White Lotus actress has faced criticism online over the campaign’s messaging, which includes references to both genetic and fashion traits.
One tagline reads, “Sydney Sweeney has great jeans,” with a play on the word “genes.” In a promotional video, she states, “my jeans are blue,” following a scientific breakdown of inherited traits.

According to public records, Sweeney has been registered with the Republican Party of Florida since June 2024. Her political affiliation surfaced as criticism of her campaign intensified, with some commentators accusing the ads of promoting harmful ideologies related to race and beauty standards.
Trump’s communications director Steven Cheung labelled the controversy “cancel culture run amok.” Vice President JD Vance also commented on the backlash, stating, “My political advice to the Democrats is: continue to tell everybody who thinks Sydney Sweeney is attractive that they’re a Nazi.”
While American Eagle has also defended the concept, Sweeney herself has not responded publicly to the reaction.
