Brennan Lee Mulligan has been confirmed as the Game Master for Campaign 4 of Critical Role, which will premiere on October 2. The announcement coincides with Mulligan signing a new three-year development deal with Dropout, where he will continue to lead Dimension 20 and develop new series.
The upcoming Critical Role campaign marks a departure from previous storylines set in Exandria. Mulligan will take over from Matt Mercer, who is stepping back to allow for new creative directions.
According to Critical Role, Campaign 4 will introduce “a new world, new tone, and new possibilities.”
Mulligan is best known for Dimension 20 and his podcast Worlds Beyond Number, and he confirmed that production on existing Dropout content would remain unaffected.
He also hinted at new unscripted and storytelling formats in development as part of his extended deal.
Critical Role co-founder Travis Willingham said Mulligan was the ideal choice to carry the franchise forward, praising his “passion and drive for worldbuilding.”
Creative director Marisha Ray added that Campaign 4 “starts a whole new book” for the series. Additional details about the game system, world setting, and cast will be announced in the coming months.
Mulligan said the collaboration had been planned for some time, calling the opportunity a “delight and privilege.”
Episodes of the 4th campaign will stream weekly via Beacon.tv, YouTube, and Twitch, with VOD and podcast releases staggered shortly thereafter.
