
A reputed consultant physician and gastro hepatologist, Prof Dr Kirpal Das Makheja, survived an armed attack in Sukkur district on Saturday but one of his assistants lost his life in the assault. The doctor was heading to Khairpur from Sukkur when his car was fired upon from behind near the Sukkur barrage on Bachal Shah Miani Road within the limits of Airport police.
There were four persons in the car and Dr Makheja was on the front seat. Two of his assistants were in rear seat. The doctor told the police and the media that they did not know, they are being chased. Wazir Ali Bohar sustained a fatal gunshot. He was rushed to the hospital where he breathed his last.
"Bohar was my old associate and he worked with me for about 10 years," the doctor said and broke into tears while talking about him.
After hearing the gunshots the doctor told his driver to speed up the car and they managed to escape the assailants who were on a motorcycle.
Dr Makheja said he has no enmity with anyone and is clueless about the probable cause of the assault. The incident's FIR could not be registered by the evening.
Meanwhile, SSP Azhar Khan Mughal told the media that a security operation has been launched in Sukkur's riverbed and forest areas to catch the assailants. He added that raids are also being conducted in Sukkur city and assured that the police would soon apprehend the culprits.
