The man who jumped into the sea with his children on Thursday afternoon near Sea View, has been identified as Aurangzeb Alam, a schoolteacher and resident of Orangi Town.
The incident turned out to be a case of suicide. The bodies of the two children who drowned in the sea were recovered from different locations on the Clifton beach on Friday morning. They were identified as 8-year-old Ahmed and 5-year-old Ayat, children of Aurangzeb Alam.
The bodies were recovered but the body of Aurangzeb Alam, has not been found yet. A search operation is being conducted by Edhi Foundation volunteers.
According to Aurangzeb's brother, Sagheer Alam, the deceased was having domestic disputes with his wife over custody of the children. Aurangzeb was the father of three children, and one of them, a 6-year-old, is currently with his wife.
A friend of the deceased, Aurangzeb Alam, revealed that he and his wife were involved in a court case due to their marital disputes. On Thursday, after leaving the court, Aurangzeb went missing with his two children. It was not until the news surfaced that his friend suspected Aurangzeb might have taken his own life along with the children.
Upon seeing the body of one of the children, the friend confirmed it was Ahmed. The friend believes that the domestic disputes and heartbreak led Aurangzeb to take the extreme step, which resulted in the tragic loss of three lives.
According to Edhi authorities, the rescue operation to retrieve the body of the father would resume again on Saturday morning.
