Armed robbers made off with Rs9.7 million in cash after ambushing a private cash van outside a bank in Korangi area on Tuesday. Two security guards were injured in the exchange of fire that occurred near Godam Chowrangi within the jurisdiction of the Korangi Industrial Area police station.

The suspects, reportedly opened indiscriminate fire on the cash van crew as they exited a commercial bank branch with the cash. The assailants injured two guards and looted the cash before fleeing the scene.

The suspects then abandoned their damaged car and hijacked another vehicle — a Suzuki Alto — at gunpoint from a passerby to continue their escape.

Speaking to the media, he confirmed that the suspects fled with Rs9.7 million in cash and that an investigation had been launched using technical and forensic means.

Cashvan robbery was inside job, say police

Police have cracked a multimillion-rupee robbery in Bilal Colony as they arrested three suspects and recovered part of the money from them. Investigators say the robbery, which happened during a cash transfer from a supermarket to a bank, was an inside job, with a security officer of the mart allegedly involved in orchestrating the heist.

The robbery occurred on July 29, when the cashier and two employees of Maroof Mart were on their way to deposit over Rs3.3 million at a bank.
