Jim Miller, the producer behind The Hunger Games, is turning his lens to a very different kind of battleground: the violent, morally murky world of British outlaw biker gangs. Miller has teamed up with crime author Iain Parke to adapt the Heavy Duty novels into a gripping new TV series, promising viewers a high-octane deep dive into a subculture rarely portrayed on screen.
The Heavy Duty series, beginning with Heavy Duty People, has built a cult following thanks to its raw depictions of brotherhood, betrayal, and underground crime. Set in the North East of England, the show will focus on the dark dynamics within an outlaw motorcycle club, where loyalty is everything and danger lurks behind every turn of the throttle.
Miller, 41, said he was captivated by Parke’s storytelling. "It’s dangerous, unpredictable, and deeply human. These stories go way beyond the biker image; they’re about identity, survival, and family, found and forged."
Joining the production is Edward Winterhalder, a leading authority on biker culture, as co-producer. His expertise is expected to lend authenticity to a world riddled with moral ambiguity. Casting is still under wraps, and no network has been officially announced, but the series is already being hyped as one of the UK’s most anticipated crime adaptations.
Parke called Miller’s cinematic approach the perfect fit, saying the gritty realism will be preserved while expanding the scope. “This has always been a world ripe for the screen,” Parke added, promising a ‘dark, visceral’ take that doesn’t sanitise its subjects.
The show’s development has already stirred online buzz, with fans comparing it to Sons of Anarchy but with a distinctly British edge. No premiere date has been set.
