Tyrese Gibson is facing the threat of jail time over nearly half a million dollars in unpaid legal fees related to his divorce from ex-wife Samantha Gibson. According to court documents obtained by Complex and originally reported by TMZ, Samantha’s legal team has filed a fourth motion to hold the actor and singer in contempt of court for allegedly failing to pay $492,651.99 owed to two law firms.
The outstanding amount includes attorney fees and accrued interest owed to The Gleklen Law Firm and Bloom Lines Alexander. Samantha’s lawyers are now requesting a criminal contempt ruling and are pushing for a maximum penalty of 20 days in jail, citing Gibson’s continued failure to settle the debt.
Tyrese and Samantha Gibson were married in 2017 and share a daughter, Soraya. The couple divorced in 2020, and Samantha later admitted during a 2023 podcast appearance that she may have rushed the decision to end the marriage. Despite her remarks, her attorneys maintain that the financial obligations resulting from the divorce remain valid and overdue.
This latest development adds to a growing list of legal troubles for the Fast & Furious star. As of now, Tyrese has not publicly responded to the motion or the allegations of nonpayment. The court has yet to issue a ruling on the contempt request.
