In a major operation against illegal livestock breeding, the Punjab Livestock Department raided a prominent private semen distribution company in Lahore, recovering 931 unregistered semen doses. The raid was led by Dr. Mujahid, Deputy Director of Lahore City Tehsil, along with his enforcement team.

According to officials, the seized semen included genetic material from both local and foreign breeds, none of which were registered with the Livestock Breeding Services Authority (LBSA), Punjab.

The crackdown is part of a wider campaign across the province. As a result of inspections in multiple districts, a total of 11 FIRs have been registered against individuals and institutions involved in unauthorised artificial insemination practices. These include unregistered Artificial Insemination Technicians (AITs) and semen distributors.

Specifically, two AITs in Kasur, one semen distributor in Lahore, two AITs in Sargodha, and one AIT each in Jhang, Layyah, Attock, Vehari, and Rajanpur have been booked. Additionally, a semen distributor in Gujranwala is also facing legal action.

The Livestock Department has urged cattle breeders and farmers to obtain breeding services and genetic material only from registered and authorized sources to ensure animal health and breed quality.

Commenting on the ongoing operations, Punjab Livestock Secretary Ahmad Aziz Tarar stated that strict action will continue against all those involved in illegal breeding practices. “Such unlawful businesses will not be tolerated under any circumstances,” he asserted.

Director General (Extension), Dr. Muhammad Ashraf, emphasized that only registered and trained personnel should be engaged for artificial insemination to protect the interests of livestock farmers and improve breed quality. He reaffirmed that the department will maintain indiscriminate and effective enforcement against any illegal activities in the livestock sector.
